Agree and dismissCCHI starts the CoreCHI™ certification sunsetting on January 1, 2025. This means that current holders of the CoreCHI™ credential will need to take and pass the ETOE™ (English-to-English) interpreting skills exam and earn the CoreCHI-Performance™ (CoreCHI-P™) certification in order to remain certified. The stages of this process are described below.
As of January 1, 2025, CCHI will award the initial CoreCHI™ certification only for 2 years, i.e., CoreCHI™ candidates must pass the ETOE™ exam and earn the CoreCHI-Performance™ certification within 2 years after passing the CoreCHI™ exam. See the table below for more information about renewal.
All initial and renewed certifications with the award or renewal date before 1/1/2025 are valid for 4 years and can be renewed only until 12/31/2028. These certificants must earn the CoreCHI-P™ credential before their expiration date or before 12/31/2028, whichever is later (i.e., the latest possible date would be 12/31/2028). CCHI will not issue any photo ID badges for CoreCHI™ certificants with expiration date beyond 12/31/2028.
As of January 1, 2027, CCHI will not award the CoreCHI™ certification any longer. CCHI will award 2 types of credentials from that date forward: the CHI™ and CoreCHI-P™ certifications. CoreCHI-P™ candidates who pass the CoreCHI™ exam must pass the ETOE™ exam within 1 (one) year to earn the CoreCHI-P™ certification, the same way as current CHI™ candidates must take a bilingual CHI™ exam within 1 (one) year.
If the CoreCHI™ certification is awarded between 1/1/2025 and 1/1/2027, such certificants have up to 2 years to pass the ETOE™ exam, otherwise, their CoreCHI™ certification will expire.
Please see the following table with examples for information on how long your own CoreCHI™ certification is valid for and by what date you need to take and pass the ETOE™ exam in order to obtain the CoreCHI-P™ (CoreCHI-Performance™) certification, i.e., remain certified.
