Current Scholarship Cycle

The Discover Healthcare Interpreting CoreCHI Scholarship was retired to make way for new scholarship opportunities in 2024.

The 2023 Fall Cycle scholarships were made possible thanks to a generous contribution from Americans Against Language Barriers (https://www.aalb.org/, Chicago, IL). We express our deep gratitude to Kevin Thakkar personally for being instrumental in providing the support.

Americans Against Language Barriers (AALB) is an Illinois-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aiming to improve the health of patients with limited English proficiency. They do this by training professional medical interpreters, providing interpreter services to healthcare organizations, and lobbying for policy reform. AALB envisions a future where language services are seamlessly and freely available across the healthcare system. They have been recently featured in Digital Journal and USA Today. The AALB Medical Interpreter Training Program, a 60-hour certificate course, is delivered entirely online and has multiple registration dates available. This comprehensive program not only equips interpreters with the essential skills needed to work as a medical interpreter, but also prepares them to sit for the CCHI Certification Exam. The training requires fluency in English and at least one other language, along with a stable internet connection and appropriate hardware. For more details and registration, please visit AALB’s website: https://www.aalb.org/register
