CoreCHI™ Certification Sunsetting & Transitioning to the CoreCHI-Performance™ Certification

ATTENTION CoreCHI™ certificants!

As CCHI continues the transition toward the sunsetting of the standalone CoreCHI™ certification that we started in January 2025, please note key policy updates taking effect on January 1, 2027, as well as the ongoing guidelines for current credential holders.

Upcoming Changes Starting January 1, 2027

  • Discontinuation of CoreCHI™ Certification: Beginning January 1, 2027, CCHI will no longer award the standalone CoreCHI™ certification.

  • Two Primary Credentials: From January 1, 2027 forward, CCHI will award only two credentials: the CHI™ and the CoreCHI-Performance™ (CoreCHI-P™) certifications.

  • 1-Year ETOE™ Exam Requirement: Candidates who pass the CoreCHI™ exam on or after January 1, 2027 must take and pass the ETOE™ (English-to-English) interpreting skills exam within 1 (one) year (12 months) to earn the CoreCHI-P™ certification. This aligns with the 1-year timeline required for bilingual CHI™ candidates taking a CHI™ exam.

Ongoing Transition Guidelines for Current Certificants

  • Certifications Awarded/Renewed Between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2026: Certificants who obtained or renewed their CoreCHI™ credential during this timeframe have up to 2 years from their award date to pass the ETOE™ exam and earn the CoreCHI-P™ certification. If the ETOE™ exam is not passed within this 2-year window, the CoreCHI™ certification will expire and cannot be renewed.

  • Certifications Issued/Renewed Before 1/1/2025: All CoreCHI™ certifications awarded or renewed prior to January 1, 2025 are valid for 4 years and can only be renewed until December 31, 2028.

  • Final Transition Deadline: All CoreCHI™ certificants must earn the CoreCHI-P™ credential before their expiration date or by December 31, 2028, whichever date comes first. CCHI will not issue photo ID badges for CoreCHI™ certificants with expiration dates beyond December 31, 2028.

  • Expiration Date Alignment: For any CoreCHI™ certificant who renewed ahead of schedule resulting in an expiration date beyond 12/31/2028, CCHI will align the expiration date to 12/31/2028.

Please see the following table with examples for information on how long your own CoreCHI™ certification is valid for and by what date you need to take and pass the ETOE™ exam in order to obtain the CoreCHI-P™ (CoreCHI-Performance™) certification, i.e., remain certified.
