Clinician Engagement Council (CEC)

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) established the Clinician Engagement Council (CEC) to strengthen collaboration between healthcare professionals and the interpreting profession in advancing language equity and high-quality, patient-centered care.

The CEC brings together 13 physician leaders from 11 healthcare and academic institutions across the United States who serve as advisors to CCHI. The Council’s goals include providing clinical perspectives to help inform CCHI initiatives, sharing educational resources, collaboration on research and  publications, policy development, and advocacy efforts that promote the value of certified healthcare interpreters.

As the Council begins its work, its priorities include engaging with medical schools, residency and fellowship programs, hospitals, and professional organizations to enhance clinician education on effective collaboration with certified healthcare interpreters. The CEC also aims to foster interdisciplinary partnerships, scholarly engagement, and mentorship that support sustainable improvements in language access and the quality and safety of care for patients with limited English proficiency.

Together, CCHI and the Clinician Engagement Council are strengthening partnerships to advance equitable healthcare for all.
